Youth Leadership Opportunities

The WREA Board of Directors is supportive of the youth in this community and, as a result, WREA will sponsor four High School students as they embark on an experience of a lifetime at the NRECA Washington, DC Youth Tour and the CEEI Youth Leadership Camp in 2018. Two students will be selected for each event based on an essay contest and winners will be announced in January 2018.  Details are listed below:

NRECA Washington DC Youth Tour

Attention High School Juniors: Please do not miss this opportunity. WREA will choose two students to attend the NRECA Washington, DC Youth Tour June 7-14, 2018. Students must submit a 1-2 page "Letter to the President".  Express your concerns, your solutions and your praises.  Letters must be received at the WREA office by December 15, 2017 to be eligible to compete.  Be creative!  We love creativity!

If selected, WREA will pay ALL of your expenses during the weeklong trip to Washington and you will be treated to an experience of a lifetime. Meet with senators and representatives and tour the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, 911 Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Library of Congress, Smithsonian Museum, just to name a few! Find more information about the DC Youth Tour here or watch the video below featuring the 2017 Youth Tour Winners, Alicia Mobley and Mariela Rosas.

CEEI Youth Leadership Camp

Attention high school sophomores: WREA will choose two students to attend the CEEI Youth Leadership Camp in Clark, Colorado on July 14-19, 2018. Students must submit a 1-2 page essay on "Leadership".  Essays must be received at the WREA office by December 15, 2017 in order to be eligible. This camp is all about finding your inner leader. Have fun with this essay. Be yourself and let WREA see you shine.

If selected, WREA will pay all of your expenses for the 5-day camp, including your transportation to/from the camp. This camp is designed to allow students the opportunity to run their own cooperative, elect a General Manager and Board of Directors and vote as a membership. Past participants have credited it with changing their life and helping them "step out of the box into becoming a leader". Please, we encourage your to join in on the fun. Campers will be treated to a river rafting trip, a gondola ride to the top of Mt. Werner and various activities to encourage leadership.
